A meeting of the national secretaries of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor (TRACECA) was held in Tbilisi, which was attended by the heads of transport agencies of the organization's member countries.

TRACECA General Secretary Aset Asavbayev also participated in the meeting. In his welcome speech, the Deputy Minister of Economy of Georgia Guram Guramishvili emphasized the importance of TRACECA and said that the Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor is an important platform for improving transport, trade and economic ties between its member states. As the deputy minister noted, the member states of the corridor pay special attention to the development of transport-logistics infrastructure, which contributes to increasing the competitiveness of the corridor.

He also focused on the ongoing projects in Georgia, such as Anaklia deep-water harbor, railway modernization, Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, East-West highway and others. According to Guram Guramishvili, the development of the mentioned projects will open up even more opportunities in the direction of strengthening the transit-logistics function of our country, which will also contribute to the increase of cargo flows in the TRACECA corridor. improvement of transport links and border checkpoints within the corridor and others.

Special emphasis was placed on the digitization of both rail and road freight operations in the corridor. The national secretaries of the member states also agreed to continue working actively to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor.

It should be noted that during the 10 months of 2024, compared to the same period of the previous year, 23.5 million tons of cargo were transported by land transport in Georgia in the mode of international shipments, which is 3.5% more than the same period of 2023. As for seaports of Georgia, they processed a total of 11.1 million tons of cargo during the reporting period, which is 8.0% more than in the same period of the previous year. It should be noted that in the period of January-October 2024, the number of containers shipped from China to Georgia via the Middle Corridor amounted to 10,848 TEU, which is 13 times more than in the same period of 2023.
