Benefits of the Georgia-Turkey Digital Permit System

Irakli Nemsadze, Head of the Transport Carriers Association, explains that the new mechanism, which is based on the Georgia-Turkey bilateral electronic platform, eliminates the complex, time- and resource-intensive bureaucratic chain that existed before.

What benefits will carriers receive?

1. Removal of physical barriers: Carriers will no longer have to physically visit the Land Transport Agency to obtain a permit and later, after using it, return it again.

2. Saving time and money: Remote administration reduces technical delays and the costs associated with the physical processing and transportation of documentation.

3. Security and insured risks: The digital format eliminates the risk of physical damage or loss of the document, which was previously an additional "headache" for carriers.

4. Transparency: The electronic system reduces the possibility of manipulation.

"Previously, the carrier would physically submit an application, receive a document that the driver had to have on board, and then return it to the agency, which was a necessary condition for obtaining the next permit. Under the new rules, these procedures will be eliminated. Time and resources will be saved, which will make the process much more efficient and convenient for the carrier," believes Irakli Nemsadze.

According to him, Turkey is undoubtedly the most important direction for Georgian carriers, both in the case of bilateral transportation, import and export, as well as in the case of third-country and transit transportation, therefore electronic permits in this direction are very important. However, it is desirable to introduce this platform with other countries as well.

"The next countries can be considered Azerbaijan, which is already a connecting country with Central Asia, and negotiations in this direction are also proceeding very positively, and we expect that in the near future a digital permit system will be introduced with Azerbaijan as well. The next countries can be considered the Republic of Kazakhstan and Armenia, as the next connecting links with other directions, so to speak. As far as I know, the leadership of the Land Transport Agency and the team of our Ministry of Economy are working with the services of the relevant countries, and we have positive expectations. We also want not only the permit to be digitized, but also the process of applying for a permit to become as electronic and digital as possible, that is, it can be implemented remotely. As we were told, there are currently moves in this direction as well," says Irakli Nemsadze
