Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at
the opening of the 13th Baku Global Forum that Armenia will become a transit
country for the first time in the history of its independence. According to the
country's leader, this opportunity was created by the peace agreement reached
with the neighboring state.
According to Aliyev, active work is
underway on a new branch of the "middle corridor", which will pass
through the territory of Armenia. According to him, the project will allow
Azerbaijan to connect the main part of the country with the Nakhichevan
Autonomous Republic with solid transport, energy, fiber-optic and potentially
pipeline systems.
In addition to talking about Armenia, the
Azerbaijani leader also spoke about the fact that the country will invest a
large part of its revenues from fossil fuels in the development of transport
and logistics infrastructure. According to Aliyev, Azerbaijan has become an
indispensable partner for both the “East-West” and “North-South” corridors.
Aliyev emphasized that construction work on the territory of Azerbaijan in both directions has already been completed and that investments are currently directed only towards expanding the existing capacity.
