Brussels has launched the procedure for
visa facilitation for citizens of Kazakhstan. The decision was made after the
22nd session of the EU-Kazakhstan Cooperation Council in Brussels and was
confirmed by the President of the Council, Antonio Costa, during his first
official visit to Kazakhstan on Thursday.
Costa said the visa facilitation would make
it easier for citizens of both Kazakhstan and the EU to work and invest. Kazakh
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev also welcomed the decision, noting that the
agreement would promote cooperation and mobility in the fields of education,
science, culture and business.
Kazakhstan also backed a €12 billion
investment package for Central Asia. Tokayev said the funds would be allocated
to projects in transport, raw materials, green energy and digital technologies.
Kazakhstan has also pledged to ensure
stable energy supplies to Europe, following an attack on the Caspian Pipeline
Consortium (CPC) earlier this year. It is worth noting that 80% of Kazakhstan’s
oil flows through the CPC, including to Europe.
During his visit to Kazakhstan, Koshta praised the host country for its commitment to the UN Charter and noted Tokayev’s role in promoting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which opens up new opportunities for the development of the Middle East. The visit coincided with the 10th anniversary of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and Kazakhstan, which was signed in December 2015.
